Week 6: Working with a broken ankle
This week was full of highs and lows. I was thrilled to learn that my fractures healed and my cast was coming off. Sitting in the doctor’s office, I imagined my beach walks, cooking in the kitchen, walking to the bathroom, standing in the shower, and wearing PANTS. As I left in my new boot, I surely was going to be able to ditch the crutches that night and enjoy my life with two legs.
Boy, was I wrong.
First, my leg looks more like a noodle than a leg. And each step sends shockwaves through my body. I’m entirely reliant on the crutches now. I was told not to use the scooter and start walking. I overdid it on day one, and as I start my third day without a cast, I’m walking at a snail’s pace.
I’m trying to stay positive, but it was a huge letdown. I’m not going to lie. Now, I’m just hoping I’m off my crutches by Monday or Tuesday. I’m Pomodoring it at work and getting out from behind the desk every 25 minutes. Patience is a virtue. I have no choice but to embrace that.
Work-wise, I signed another new client this week and have a good call with another on Monday. I’m launching a website for a dear friend today and sending a mock-up for review to another. Notably, I did get my taxes wrapped up. I file an extension every year. I’m keeping my head above water.
But this week, I noticed significant things that were slipping through the cracks:
- I haven’t updated my care plan/recurring revenue spreadsheet for WEEKS. I’ve added hosting and care plan clients and need to get them in place.
- I haven’t checked in with several clients I regularly connect with.
- I haven’t updated my business website in weeks.
- I haven’t entered my numbers for BNI in our tracking system in weeks.
- I have 700 emails in my inbox.
Next week, my focus is on getting organized. I will carve out an hour a day just working on my own business admin.
AND WALKING. It’s all about walking.
