Time to get out of my comfort zone

When 2020 rolled around, I thought it would be the perfect year to get over my fear of public speaking.  I have wanted to conquer this for years.  I have made great strides after 10 years of BNI, but I have hesitated to really push myself and commit to submitting a talk to a WordCamp.  Now, with COVID-19 and the “cancellation of everything”, I have a great opportunity to prepare myself for 2021 and get over my fear of public speaking.

I attended my first Toastmasters in mid-March only to have the city shut down before I could join.  My BNI meeting continues on Zoom and I had a successful short presentation to my group online.  Presenting online is still nerve-racking, mostly because you are worried about the technology failing (can you hear me now?). But, I realize it’s an opportunity for me to speak to more folks without really feeling the size of the crowd.  The virtual crowd can be my stepping stone.

Prior to the pandemic, I had agreed to do a Crowdcast presentation for GoDaddy.  I’m so glad I did! I have seen friends/colleagues nail their presentations online and they truly inspired me. While I’m used to doing 8-minute presentations twice a year, a 30-40 minute time slot has always seemed so daunting.  Now,  I feel much better about breaking things into manageable sections and thinking of tiny time blocks versus all those minutes, all at once.  I can’t believe I’m actually excited about it!

I would love for you to join me on May 20th.
It will make me feel better just knowing you are there in the virtual crowd!
